Ready to start writing your memoir? Part one of this workshop led by local memoirist Melissa Hart teaches participants how to choose a theme and/or era around which to shape your book. Using examples from published memoir, she’ll discuss chapter and overall book structure and teach basic skills in crafting setting, characterization, dialogue, narrative arc, and theme. Participants will come away with a solid sense of how to begin their memoir and sustain its creation from the first to the final page.

Part 2: Building and Deepening Your StoryWordcrafters Workshops

This intermediate workshop in writing a book-length memoir deepens participants’ understanding of setting, characterization, dialogue, narrative arc, and theme. Using examples from published memoir, Melissa Hart will teach writers how to use symbolism and figurative language, how to develop a discernible writing style that readers will recognize, and how to incorporate research into your book to further engage your audience.
