From Walden to Wild, an exploration of nature and travel writing

This four-week class will introduce nature and travel writing basics just in time for you to record your summer adventures. We will look at examples of classic and contemporary works in both areas, including travel blogs, and develop and workshop your own pieces.

Week 1: Intro to Nature writing. Basics, examples and writing prompts.

Week 2: Nature writing field trip to Skinner’s Butte and classroom discussion.

Week 3: Workshopping of nature piece. Intro to Travel writing. Basics, examples and writing prompts.

Week 4: Workshopping of travel piece. Class readings.

NOTE: This class includes a field trip to a nearby local natural feature. If this might be difficult for you, we’ll do our best to make special accommodations.

Bronwynn Dean has an MFAW from Goddard College. She has written a non-fiction essay collection called Potted: A Cultivated Life that examines the evolution of marijuana culture and her development in relation to weed. She teaches non-fiction classes through Wordcrafters, is a cofounder of the writing group The Stonecutters Union, and serves as the nonfiction editor for Clockhouse.
