Do You Love To Tell Stories?

If you love to write, we’ve got a contest for you! Submit your stories to the Wordcrafters Young Writers’ Short Story Contest, sponsored by the University of Oregon Bookstore. Winners will be presented at the 2015 Wordcrafters Conference in March.

Who Can Participate?

All elementary, middle, and high school students in students in Lane County, Oregon are eligible whether they attend public, private, or home school.

 Contest Prizes         

A First, Second, and Third place award will be presented to each academic level —elementary, middle, high school.

  • First Place winners will receive a $200 gift certificate from the University of Oregon Bookstore, and free registration to our 2016 conference.
  • Second Place winners will be awarded a $100 certificate from the University of Oregon Bookstore.
  • Third Place winners will receive a $50 gift certificate from the University of Oregon Bookstore.

 Submission Guidelines

What you write is limited only by your imagination. You can take us to the moon or to the center of the Earth. We can travel with you to ancient times or a future yet to be. Above all, have fun!Short stories must be fiction, minimum 300 words and a maximum of 3000 words.  Please include a first page cover sheet with story title, writer’s name, age, school, and contact information only. Writer’s information should not be included on any of the subsequent story pages, as all submissions are judged anonymously.

  • All short stories should be original, entirely your work, and previously unpublished.
  • Submissions should be emailed to contest@wordcraftersineugene.org. Only Microsoft Word and PDF formats will be accepted. Please double-space.
  • The contest will open for submissions on Monday, 10 November 2014.

Submissions must be received by 11:59:59 PM on Saturday, 28 February 2015. No entry fee required for entry.
